FACE LIFTS: by Hattie

FACE LIFTS: Are You Considering Having One?

If you’ve been seriously considering having a facelift, and you are hoping I will give you some good advice on the best way to go about getting one, you’re in for a shock. I TOTALLY DISAPPROVE OF CUTTING THE FACE FOR AESTHETIC, OR COSMETIC REASONS IN ORDER TO LOOK YOUNGER. Why am I being so adamant in my view? After all, facelifts are quickly becoming as common as dying one’s hair. They’re treated like a relatively simple procedure, after which the individual will look young and ravishing. Adding to all the hype that appears daily in magazines and TV ads, are the celebrity photos in the gossip magazines that show famous people looking younger than ever. They seem to be making a convincing case for plastic surgery, but mostly, that super-young look is created with Photo Shop and considerable computer touch-ups. What is actually happening with this surgery? First of all, facelifts are a medical, surgical procedure…all of which entail certain risks, like scarring, disfigurement, loss of sensation, even paralysis. When muscles and nerves are severed, and the energy meridians of the body are distorted, permanent damage to the face is guaranteed to occur. It may not show up immediately, but ultimately, the face begins to look weird because natural expressions no longer can occur. You may be thinking, “What’s the alternative, if I want to look young?” My answer is not to aim for looking young, but instead to aim for radiant health, uniqueness, and the true beauty that emanates from within. I often josh, and say, “Facelifts are like potato chips. You can’t have just one!” Though this is facetious, it’s also true. Each time the facial muscles are cut and the skin is stretched, the recovery from surgery is more difficult. A person can be left with a face that looks like a mask. Is that what you want? I don’t. I’ve created a series of “Lift Your Face” exercises that have helped me maintain a toned, glowing face. In my 70’s, I do have some wrinkles, but with constant massage and moisturizing, they are soft and interesting. Yes, interesting. For me, a “real” face, with animation and emotions that show, is a face I believe we should all chose for our entire lives. It’s not young vs. old. It’s real vs. fake. What choice will you make?
