Water Birth by Katie Byrd

Water birth is described as the gentlest way of giving births, providing the luxury of water to cradle mother as a unique experience. It is widely accepted as a common practice in many parts of United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Today, water birth is often practiced by those who choose to have home brith. However, it is important to make sure all birthing pools and equipments to be disposed or thoroughly cleaned and dried after use to avoid any infection.

The method involves the immersion in warm water. Not only it is safe, it also provides benefits for both mother and baby. However, some do argue on the unnecessary risk to infants such as water inhalation. Many believe that water birth has many benefits to the mother. Relaxation is the key to quicken the labor and this is how the water helps. The hormones are allowed to enter her blood stream to speed the process as she relaxes. Her cervix dilates and stimulate the pelvic floor muscle will help to open in preparation for birth.

Besides, this is also a form of pain management during the delivery. This hydrotherapy will help in lower back pain as a safer alternative compares to other methods. The full concentration of water promotes physiological response in mother that decrease pain. For the babies, the water has the effect in slow crowning of the heads as well as reduces the risk of complication which can be caused by surgery. Most "water babies" appear calm and relax when they come out from water.
